Mercedes Dassy presents Spongebabe in L.A. (4 Love & Anxiety), a self-portrait blending fiction and reality in the chimeric form of a concert, a dance performance, and a behind-the-scenes narrative. Throughout the rehearsals of a concert where songs, intimate and/or political addresses to the audience, and choreographed interludes alternate, a singer leads the fiction, exploring the theme of transformation—those moments in life when we have no choice but to metamorphose.
Mercedes Dassy studied at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance. She danced for L. Gruwez and L. Mannès before creating her solo works_ i-clit_ and_ B4 summer, initiating a radical body of work between the personal and the political. In 2022, she created _RUUPTUUR, a quartet of dancers embodying the power of the collective through a futuristic-looking choreography. Fascinated by the iconic figure of the singer, Mercedes explores voice and writing, drawing from her own texts in Spongebabe.
