Somewhere between a classical recital and a rock concert, Insuline is a hard-hitting show that breaks codes and shakes up genres, a queer manifesto that's a joy to experience. Standing on stage like an ice pick, IEL confesses their despair at the diagnosis of diabetes. Their words open a breach, and buried memories resurface: those of Vincenzo, the homosexual and diabetic grandfather, “infamous man” and unclassifiable figure, who returns to haunt the words of the present. From fragment to fragment, IEL's cry shatters medical, social and family injunctions, culminating in the confession of their own sexual assault, the final denunciation of the mechanics of domination.
This is the third joint show by Marc Berman, Lou Lepori and Cédric Leproust, following Klaus Nomi Projekt (2018) and Corps à corps avec Shanghai by Philippe Rahmy (2020). _Insuline _arises from a burning text, written for the two performers, which takes the form of a recital: a spoken, rhythmic narrative in which words pour out like a fiery, rebellious, jarring, unhinged torrent.
