_Comme Ali_ was inspired by the revolt in France's working-class neighborhoods following the death of Nahel Merzouk at the hands of the police in late June 2023. It's a story about fire, the determination of the oppressed to see it ravage everything in its path. In this tale - a blend of Muslim culture and heroic fantasy - Ali must face forty policemen and pass as many tests. But nothing seems to be able to divert him from his quest: that the fire in the police station downstairs burns to the end...
The first play by essayist and activist Fatima Ouassak, _Comme Ali _takes up the themes she develops on the emancipatory horizons for Arab boys, as part of a decolonial and reparative literature.
Born in 1976 in the Rif region of Morocco, Fatima Ouassak is an essayist and storyteller. She has published two acclaimed essays: la puissance des mères, pour un nouveau sujet révolutionnaire, then pour une écologie pirate, et nous serons libre and, in 2024, a tale, her first literary account, rue du passage. She is also an activist, committed to anti-racism and ecology.
